Prostate adenoma in men: symptoms and effective treatment

Various means are used in the treatment of male diseases. In many cases, medications for prostate adenoma in men are quite effective and can avoid or delay surgery. With drug treatment, side effects often occur, which must be taken into account when choosing drugs.

When is drug treatment indicated?

Drugs for the treatment of male ailments are prescribed according to indications as primary or auxiliary treatment. The characteristics of the disease, the condition of the patient’s body and contraindications to the use of medications must be taken into account.

Prostate adenoma in men: symptoms and effective treatmentDrugs are prescribed as the main or auxiliary treatment

Indications for drug treatment

  • No renal complications
  • Inability to perform an operation
  • Re-development of adenoma after surgical treatment.

Drug treatment is prescribed in the initial stages of the development of the pathology, when dysfunction is minimal and there are no complications affecting the functioning of the kidneys.

There are contraindications to surgical therapy: the patient’s advanced age and the state of the cardiovascular system.

Contraindications

  • Serious urinary problems.
  • The volume of residual urine is more than 100 ml.
  • Acute urinary retention.
  • Hematuria.
  • Bladder stones.

Until recently, the main method of treating male ailments was surgery.

With the progress of drug therapy, only 20% of men with this diagnosis undergo surgery, the rest receive effective treatment with medications.

Drugs for the treatment of adenoma

There are the following groups of drugs for the treatment of the disease:

  • alpha-blockers;
  • antibacterial agents;
  • 5-alpha reductase inhibitors;
  • hormonal drugs;
  • herbal remedies.

When are antibiotics needed?

Antibiotic therapy is indicated in cases of bacterial infection. In this case, Gentamicin, Levorin, and drugs from the cephalosporin group are used. With the help of antibiotics it is possible to extinguish inflammation and improve urodynamics. When choosing a drug, you should take into account possible contraindications for use.

Alpha blockers

Drugs from this group have a relaxing effect on the muscle fibers of the prostate. Muscle spasms stop and the urination process normalizes. Relief with alpha-blockers can be achieved quickly.

Many drugs from this group cause a significant decrease in blood pressure, so they are contraindicated in men with low blood pressure. Tamsulosin-based products do not have this effect.

These medications for prostate adenoma act more carefully and can be prescribed to elderly patients, as well as those who have concomitant problems such as diabetes mellitus, bronchial asthma, since they have minimal side effects.

Preparations based on tamsulosin

  • Omnic.
  • Focusin.
  • Lokren.
  • Flosin.
  • Adenorm.

Alpha blockers are often prescribed in combination with Picamilon to increase the effectiveness of the drug.

Drugs from the group of adrenergic blockers quickly eliminate symptoms. But they do not affect the pathological process itself. They are most effective for mild prostate hyperplasia. Men with severe forms of urinary disorders and genitourinary infections are not prescribed alpha-blockers.

Possible side effects

  • Headache.
  • Nasal congestion.
  • Digestive disorders.

Omnic drug

One of the most commonly used drugs for the treatment of pathology from the group of alpha-blockers is Omnic. A drug is prescribed to eliminate functional disorders of the urinary organs. The effect of treatment appears after 2 weeks of use.

In the initial stages of disease development in patients, the effect occurs after the first dose. The drug is highly selective, that is, it acts selectively on exactly those organs for which it is used to treat, so side effects occur infrequently.

Omnic does not affect blood pressure.

Omnic is available in capsules. Take one capsule once a day after meals in the morning. This drug is contraindicated in case of severe liver failure and hypersensitivity to the components included in the composition.

5-alpha reductase inhibitors

Drugs in this group allow you to get rid of the symptoms of the development of the disease, as they prevent the progression of the disease and lead to a decrease in the size of the development of the pathology. This is achieved by reducing the level of the hormone dihydrotestosterone, which provokes prostate hyperplasia.

After treatment with 5-alpha reductase inhibitors, more than half of patients do not require surgery. When treating with these drugs, remember that it takes time to achieve the effect. Relief of symptoms may occur only after 3-6 months of therapy.

An important advantage of such drugs is their effectiveness for large adenomas in men.

Possible side effects are associated with inhibition of sexual functions, weakening of erection and decreased sperm production. After finishing taking the drugs, the negative effects disappear, and the man’s sexual function is completely restored.

Currently available drugs based on dutasteride or finasteride:

  • Avodart.
  • Alfinal.
  • Prosteride.
  • Finasteride TEVA.

The most popular drug is Finasteride TEVA, which is available in tablets. For treatment, take one tablet once a day.

Contraindications are hypersensitivity to the components of the drug; it is prescribed with caution in case of liver failure, with a large amount of residual urine.

If a man plans to have a child, then he is prohibited from taking Finasteride, as there is a risk of fetal pathology. This drug poses a danger to a male fetus if a pregnant woman comes into contact with crushed tablets.

The undoubted advantage of this drug is the ability to achieve stable, long-term remission and complete restoration of urinary function.

Hormones in the treatment of prostate adenoma

The use of hormonal drugs in the treatment of prostate adenoma is due to the fact that it is hormones that regulate the growth of the glandular tissue of the organ.

In some cases, it is necessary to block testosterone synthesis in order to limit the androgenic effect on the prostate. In others, it is necessary to increase the amount of male sex hormones.

Such drugs are not prescribed to all patients, as they have a considerable list of side effects.

Hormonal drugs can be used in the form of injections or suppositories; in each case, the form of the medication is selected individually.

Hormone-based drugs

  • Raveron is effective in the initial stages.

Prostate adenoma in men: symptoms and effective treatmentProstatilen suppositories and injections

  • Prostatilen normalizes circulation in the prostate, eliminates swelling, and stabilizes urination.
  • Sustanon has a prolonged action, allowing it to be administered by injection once a month.

Herbal preparations

To treat the pathology, herbal medicines are used, which are quite effective but have fewer side effects. They can improve the process of urination, increase the speed of urine flow, and eliminate inflammation. Some drugs effectively eliminate swelling, improving urinary function without reducing libido.

Herbal preparations are effective in the fight against adenoma!

Effect of herbal medicines

  • Suppression of prostate cell growth factors.
  • Blocking androgen receptors.
  • Suppression of the action of enzymes involved in hormonal metabolism.
  • Impact on tissue growth factors.

Herbal medicines today are available in convenient forms; they are often prescribed both as an independent remedy when a gentle effect is needed, and as part of complex therapy.

Herbal remedies

  • Trianol stimulates epithelial restoration, reduces inflammation, activates the excretory function of the gland, and improves urodynamics.

Tykveol capsules

  • Tykveol has an anti-inflammatory effect, improves blood supply to the pelvic organs, and tones the bladder muscles.
  • Prostagute is effective in the initial stages and with weakness of the bladder sphincter.
  • Prostabin is a protein-vitamin complex rich in zinc, which is so necessary for the normal functioning of the prostate gland. In addition to a positive effect on the functioning of the prostate, this remedy has a strengthening effect on the entire body and improves immunity.

Afala tablets

Homeopathic medicine Afala

This remedy improves the functional state of the genitourinary system, sexual functions, eliminates symptoms and dysuric phenomena.

The effectiveness of Afala has been proven for stages 1 and 2 of prostate adenoma. Suitable for preventing exacerbations in chronic processes. The drug is available in lozenges, which are taken twice a day. The dosage and duration of treatment is determined by the doctor.

With prostate adenoma, the timeliness of measures taken is of great importance in the success of treatment. When the first signs of trouble appear, you should consult a doctor. Today, men often prescribe treatment themselves, after reading articles about medications and reviews about their use.

On the forums of sites dedicated to men's problems, you can find a lot of advice on treating adenoma. However, you should not self-medicate, as this can only worsen the situation. The most effective is complex treatment with several drugs.

Only a specialist can choose them correctly after analyzing the data obtained during diagnostic studies.

Treatment of prostate adenoma in men with drugs without surgery: effective means (omnic and others)

Prostate adenoma in men: symptoms and effective treatment

Prostate adenoma is a disease of the genitourinary system in men associated with pathological proliferation of prostate cells. Previously, the only treatment option for BPH was surgery. Today, there are various drugs for the treatment of prostate adenoma, which help patients avoid surgery.

Indications and contraindications for drug treatment

Drug therapy for prostate adenoma can be either an independent or an auxiliary method of treatment. When choosing a particular drug, the doctor will take into account the characteristics of the development of the disease, the general condition of the patient and possible contraindications to its use.

Medicines used for benign prostatic hyperplasia can:

  1. Improve metabolic processes in the prostate gland.
  2. Improve the general condition of the male genitourinary system.

Urologist Igor Mikhailovich Rokhlikov about the treatment of the disease:

  1. Normalize blood circulation in the damaged area.
  2. Restore the balance of male hormones.

For this, medications can be used in the form of:

  • Tablets for oral use.
  • Capsules for oral administration.

  • Liquids (drops) for oral use.
  • Injections (intramuscular or intravenous).
  • Rectal remedies (suppositories).

Drug treatment of prostate adenoma is advisable at the initial stage of development of prostate adenoma, when the changes that have occurred are insignificant and the disease has not led to the development of complications. Medicines are also prescribed in the case of:

  1. No renal complications.
  2. Recurrence of the pathological process after surgery.
  3. Inability to perform surgery. This may be due to the patient’s advanced age or the presence of disorders in the cardiovascular system.

Direct contraindications to drug therapy include:

  • Presence of stones in the bladder.
  • Urinary disorders, including acute retention.
  • Hematuria.

How to cure prostate adenoma without surgery?

If it is necessary to treat the disease, the doctor may prescribe the following medications for prostate adenoma:

  1. Antibiotics.
  2. Hormonal medications.
  3. Alpha blockers.

Dermatovenerologist Vyacheslav Vasilievich Makarchuk talks about the use, forms of release, side effects and analogues of the drug troxevasin:

  1. 5-alpha reductase inhibitors.
  2. Preparations based on herbal ingredients.
  3. Medicines to normalize blood circulation in the prostate area (Troxevasin capsules).

Antibacterial drugs

If an infection is detected during diagnosis, the doctor may prescribe antibiotics. Typically, cephalosporins, Levorin, Gentamicin, Norbactin are used for this.

Such drugs help relieve swelling and inflammation. Their use also improves urodynamics.

But only a doctor can prescribe them, since many of them can cause side effects during treatment.

Prostate adenoma in men: symptoms and effective treatment

Gentamicin is used most often for adenoma complicated by infection. The average price in pharmacies for 10 ampoules of 2 ml each is 30 rubles

Hormonal drugs

Pathological growth of the prostate is associated with hormonal changes in the male body. Therefore, the course of treatment for adenoma includes the use of hormonal drugs.

Only a doctor can select them, since in some cases it may be necessary to block the production of testosterone, and in others, on the contrary, to increase the level of sex hormones.

Due to the fact that hormonal medications have many contraindications, they are not always prescribed.

They can be in the form of rectal suppositories or injections. Most often prescribed:

  • "Raveron". Used in the initial stages of pathology development.
  • “Prostatilen” - the drug reduces swelling, normalizes blood circulation and the process of urination.
  • "Sustanon" is a medicine with a prolonged effect, which makes it possible to inject once a month.

Doctor's reviews about the drug "Prostatilen":

Alpha blockers

To ensure relaxation of the prostate muscles, medications from this group are used. Alpha-blockers relieve spasms and normalize impaired urination. The drugs help to quickly reduce the main symptoms of prostatitis and adenoma. Most of them are capable of reducing blood pressure, so if a man’s blood pressure is low, then they should not be used.

For such patients, the use of drugs based on tamsulosin is indicated. Due to their mild effect, they are prescribed to older men, those who have diabetes, asthma or other concomitant diseases. List of drugs based on tamsulosin:

Prostate adenoma in men: symptoms and effective treatment

Omnic reduces the tone of the smooth muscles of the prostate gland, prostatic part of the urethra and bladder neck, and improves detrusor function. The average price in pharmacies is 760 rubles

  1. "Focusin".
  2. "Lokren."
  3. "Urorek."

To increase the effectiveness of adrenergic blockers, they are recommended to be taken together with Picamilon. Medicines of this pharmacological group relieve the main symptoms of adenoma, but cannot stop its growth.

Their use is justified only if a small adenoma is detected.

If the disease has been progressing for a long time, has caused acute urination problems in a man, or infectious processes in the genitourinary system are often detected in the patient, then they are not used.

Side effects of adrenergic blockers include:

  • Disturbances in the functioning of the digestive organs.
  • The appearance of headaches.
  • The occurrence of nasal congestion.

Prostate adenoma in men: symptoms and effective treatment

Localization of headache

The most popular adrenergic blocker is the drug Omnik. Its use helps eliminate major disorders in the genitourinary system.

The patient can notice the effect of its use after 2 weeks of regular use. Although reviews indicate that some men were able to notice an improvement after the first time.

Omnik has practically no side effects. This is due to its selective effect on individual organs.

The drug is available in the form of capsules, which are taken once a day, preferably in the morning after meals. Contraindications to its use are individual intolerance to individual components and liver failure.

5-alpha reductase inhibitors

The use of drugs in this group can reduce the adenoma and eliminate all its symptoms.

Inhibitors owe their effectiveness to their ability to reduce the secretion of the hormone dihydrotestosterone, which is the main provocateur of the development of pathology.

According to statistics, more than half of the men who took such drugs for prostate adenoma were able to avoid the need for surgical intervention.

However, when starting to take them, you should not expect an immediate effect. Typically, the patient will need treatment for 3-6 months to experience significant relief. Among the advantages of these drugs is that they can be used even when the adenoma is of significant size.

Side effects include decreased erection, sperm production and suppressed sexual desire. Usually after their cancellation, all violations disappear. Drugs in this group include:

  1. "Prosteride."
  2. "Avodart".
  3. "Finasteride".

Prostate adenoma in men: symptoms and effective treatment

The drug "Prosteride" inhibits the stimulating effect of dihydrotestosterone on the development of prostate adenoma, as a result of which the symptoms become less pronounced. The cost of the drug in pharmacies is 730 rubles

It is the latter drug that is prescribed most often. It is presented in the form of tablets that you need to drink 1 piece once a day.

Finasteride is not prescribed to patients with individual intolerance to its individual components or with liver failure. Also, it cannot be used by those men who plan to have children in the future.

This is due to the fact that the active substances of the drug can have a negative effect on the condition of the fetus.

Its advantages include the ability to achieve long-term remission and restore impaired urinary functions.

Herbal remedies

Medicines for prostate adenoma based on herbal components have a minimum number of side effects, while they are no less effective. Thanks to their use, the urination process is restored and the inflammatory process is eliminated. The main effect of herbal preparations is based on:

  • Blocking androgen receptors.
  • Effective effect on altered adenoma cells.
  • Suppression of the main factors contributing to the growth of adenoma.
  • Suppression of the synthesis of enzymes that take part in hormonal processes.

The prescription of herbal medicines can be independent or as part of a complex treatment of prostate adenoma. Most often, doctors recommend their patients to use:

  1. "Trianol" - the components of the drug restore damaged epithelium, increase urodynamics, reduce inflammation and activate the functioning of the prostate.
  2. "Pumpkin." Due to the ability to improve blood circulation in the pelvic area, this drug has an anti-inflammatory and tonic effect.
  3. "Prostagute." The medicine is effective in case of insufficient tone of the bladder sphincter and is prescribed at the initial stage of adenoma development.

The drug pumpkinol contains biologically active substances isolated from pumpkin seeds. The average price in pharmacies is 410 rubles

  1. “Prostabin” is a protein-vitamin complex, additionally enriched with zinc. In addition to effectively restoring the basic functions of the prostate gland, the product provides a general strengthening effect for the entire body and helps improve immune defense.
  2. “Afala” is a homeopathic medicine that helps improve the functioning of the genitourinary system, restores dysuric and sexual function, and reduces the main manifestations of the disease. The medicine is especially effective at stages 1 or 2 of the disease. In addition, Afala is recommended for use for preventive purposes.
  3. “The Bronze Horseman” is a homeopathic remedy that has anti-inflammatory, prostatotropic and analgesic properties. In addition, taking the medicine helps normalize blood circulation in the prostate gland.

Prevention

Doctors cannot accurately answer the question of why prostate adenoma develops. It is believed that an imbalance of male hormones in the body can lead to the disease. To avoid the development of pathology, doctors recommend:

  • Lead a healthy and active lifestyle.
  • Eat properly.

Prostate adenoma is a purely male disease, which is characterized by the formation of single or multiple nodes in the prostate gland.

Most often, the disease develops in men who have crossed the forty-year mark. At the first stage, the disease occurs in a mild form with barely pronounced symptoms.

In the absence of proper treatment, the pathology progresses, leading to the development of complications.

Prostate adenoma is a common urological disease, which is classified as benign hyperplasia. The course of the disease occurs individually for each person.

If some patients with adenoma experience rapid progression, in which the only treatment method is surgery, others may not feel any signs of pathology for a long time.

The exact causes of prostatic hyperplasia have not been identified. It is known that the pathology is associated with age-related changes.

Among the factors that can cause the development of adenoma are:

  • changes in hormonal levels, in which there is a decrease in testosterone and an increase in estrogen;
  • hereditary predisposition;
  • overweight, obesity;
  • alcohol abuse;
  • passive lifestyle;
  • frequent hypothermia of the body;
  • the presence of concomitant diseases of the genitourinary system: cystitis, prostatitis, inflammation of the urethra, etc.;
  • wrong lifestyle.

Despite the fact that this disease occurs differently in everyone, there are a number of common signs characteristic of this pathology. The following symptoms of prostate adenoma in men are distinguished:

  • frequent urge to urinate, often false;
  • painful urination, burning sensation;
  • incontinence;
  • sluggishness of the stream, the need to strain every time you urinate;
  • sleep disturbance;
  • kidney pain;
  • weakness, malaise;
  • pain during ejaculation;
  • poor appetite;
  • feeling of dry mouth;
  • acrid smell of urine.

Hyperplasia in each case is accompanied by the proliferation of glandular tissue and the formation of tumors in it. The urethra passes through the prostate gland.

Prostate adenoma in men: symptoms and effective treatment

The neoplasms gradually increase in size and begin to put pressure on him. This creates an obstacle to the normal emptying of the bladder.

The constant presence of urine in the organ leads to irritation of the mucous membrane, which entails the appearance of the first symptoms, which are expressed in the form of increased urination at night and the occurrence of false urges. These signs occur at the first stage of adenoma.

If you ignore these manifestations and do not consult a doctor, the disease will develop rapidly. As a result, serious complications may arise in the form of independent diseases of the genitourinary system. It is impossible to live with an adenoma in the later stages of development; it is dangerous to health. The disease must be treated.

Adenoma is dangerous due to its complications. They begin to develop in advanced forms of the disease, when the bladder is already sufficiently stretched. Patients experience urinary retention. This is manifested by the inability to independently empty a full bladder, even despite the increasing urge.

In this case, the kidneys are actively functioning, and the natural release of the bladder does not occur due to the compressed urethra. It continues to stretch, causing severe pain in the abdominal area. In case of acute urinary retention, the only way out is to provide urgent medical assistance.

Otherwise, the pathology can lead to aggravation of the situation - functional disorders of the intestines, heart muscle and lungs.

Other consequences of adenoma include:

  • hematuria, characterized by the presence of blood in the urine;
  • formation of stones in the bladder;
  • inflammation of the genitourinary system, in which the urinary tract, gonads and kidneys are involved in the process.

One of the most common complications of adenoma in men is prostatitis.

Signs of prostate adenoma are also characteristic of other pathological conditions. Therefore, an accurate diagnosis is necessary before treatment. The following methods are used for this:

  • detailed examination and questioning of the patient using digital examination of the prostate;
  • Ultrasound and TRUS of the prostate;
  • uroflowmetry - an examination that allows you to determine the degree of urination disorder;
  • Analysis of urine;
  • a blood test done to detect PSA (prostate-specific antigen);
  • Ultrasound of the kidneys and prostate;
  • Urethroscopy is a method by which you can see the structure of the bladder and urethra from the inside and evaluate their condition.

These methods can also detect prostate cancer.

Drug therapy for adenoma is most effective at the initial stage of the disease. The goal of conservative treatment is to slow down the growth of the prostate gland, reduce its size and normalize urination. The treatment regimen is developed individually by the attending physician. Patients may be prescribed:

  • alpha-blockers;
  • inhibitors;
  • herbal medicines.

The most popular drugs for adenoma:

  • Omnic is a medication intended to normalize the functions of the lower urinary tract. The therapeutic effect is achieved 2 weeks after starting to take the tablets. In this case, the result is fixed for a long period of time.
  • Tamsulosin is an alpha1-blocker. Prescribed for dysuric disorders. By blocking alpha-adrenergic receptors, the muscle tone of the prostate, bladder neck and urethra is reduced, resulting in the restoration of urinary outflow. At the same time, obstructive signs and irritation decrease.
  • Alfuzosin is an adrenergic blocker. Relieves muscle spasm, reduces resistance to urine outflow and reduces arterial and venous muscle tone. It is used for intensive growth of the prostate in the case of benign hyperplasia.
  • Finasteride is a hormonal agent that has an antitumor effect. The therapeutic effect is achieved by reducing the level of testosterone in the blood and suppressing the tumor. The drug has a suppressive effect on the production of dihydrotestosterone. This leads to the prevention of the proliferation of glandular tissue of the prostate, reducing its size, clearing the urinary tract and increasing the rate of urinary outflow.

Prostate adenoma in men: symptoms and effective treatment

If the development of adenoma is determined in a timely manner, it is possible to treat it with medication.

In most cases, conservative therapy is carried out in combination with other treatment methods: prostate massage, special physical exercises, diet, and the use of traditional medicine.

An important measure in the treatment of prostate hyperplasia is the organization of proper nutrition.

The following foods should be excluded from the diet:

  • promoting fluid retention in the body;
  • having a diuretic effect;
  • causing stool problems.

Men with adenoma should not eat fatty, spicy, fried foods and smoked foods. You should completely abstain from alcoholic beverages, since medications prescribed for this disease are incompatible with alcohol.

It is recommended to include porridge in the daily menu: corn, oatmeal, buckwheat. They contain a large amount of vitamins and other beneficial substances necessary for the body. In addition, cereals prevent the growth of benign tumors.

You can eat fruits and vegetables that contain fiber and dietary fiber. It is useful to drink pumpkin juice and add flaxseed oil to your food.

Traditional methods of treatment for adenoma can be used as an auxiliary therapy.

A quick positive effect can be achieved by eating pumpkin seeds. They need to be eaten at least 100 g per day for a month. The seeds must be raw or dried, but in no case fried. It is useful to drink fresh pumpkin juice, or with pulp. It is recommended to add honey to the drink for taste.

Onions give good results in the treatment of prostate hyperplasia. It is recommended to consume it daily for 2 months, one onion per day.

A similar effect can be achieved by preparing an infusion of onion peels: pour a glass of onion peels with water in a volume of 0.5 liters and set to boil over low heat for 6-7 minutes. Then cover the broth with a lid, leave to infuse until it cools completely and filter.

Add 2 tbsp to the finished drug. l. bee honey. Take the medicine half a glass 4 times a day. The course of therapy is 7 days.

A medicinal decoction of celandine is one of the oldest folk remedies intended for the treatment of prostate adenoma. To prepare, you need to take 1 tbsp. l. herbs and pour 250 g of boiling water. Let the broth brew, strain with gauze. Take 1 tbsp before meals. l. three times a day. The course of treatment is 35 days.

It is useful for patients with adenoma to drink herbal tea. To prepare it, take equal parts: yarrow, horsetail, calendula flowers. The herbs are mixed and crushed. A spoonful of the mixture is poured into a glass of boiling water, infused for 20 minutes and filtered. The serving is intended for one serving.

At an advanced stage of the prostate, surgical intervention is necessary.

Indications for surgery to remove adenoma:

  • blood in urine;
  • the occurrence of renal failure;
  • inability to empty the bladder;
  • lack of effect after drug treatment.

One of the most common surgical methods is transurethral resection of the prostate. The surgical technique involves removing the tumor using a resesoscope, which is inserted into the bladder.

Prostate adenoma in men: symptoms and effective treatment

Another method of surgical intervention is transurethral incision of the prostate gland. There is no provision for tissue removal here. The operation involves making incisions to relieve pressure on the urethra and restore normal urination.

After surgical removal of an adenoma, there is a risk of bleeding. This is rare, but retrograde ejaculation, which occurs when semen is thrown into the bladder, occurs in almost every patient after TURP.

Recently, laser surgery has become popular. The operation is performed using special endoscopic equipment and requires a highly qualified surgeon.

Prostate adenoma in men: symptoms and effective treatment

Reasons for the development of prostate adenoma

The occurrence of adenoma is most often associated with age-related changes in the prostate, namely, changes in its structure and increase in size. As a result of such changes, the urethra, which is located in the thickness of the prostate gland, is gradually compressed and disturbances in the urination process appear.

Symptoms of prostate adenoma

Prostate adenoma can be suspected when a man develops the following symptoms, the most typical for this disease:

  • increased urge to urinate;
  • the need to tense the abdominal muscles to urinate;
  • the presence of painful sensations, burning, sluggish stream of urine;
  • discomfort and insufficient emptying of the bladder;
  • increasing the duration of the urination process.

Prostate adenoma leads not only to a decrease in a man’s quality of life, but also to acute urinary retention, which requires the use of surgical treatment methods.

To avoid surgery, many patients use special medications to treat prostate adenoma, eliminating symptoms and restoring normal prostate function.

However, only a qualified specialist can suggest the best remedy for prostatitis and prostate adenoma, who should be contacted when the first symptoms of the disease appear.

Treatment of this disease is individual for each patient, therefore drugs for the treatment of prostate adenoma, their dosage and duration of use should be prescribed by the attending physician. Taking medications for prostatitis and prostate adenoma on your own can be not only ineffective, but also dangerous.

Due to the presence of some “personal” chronic diseases in older men, drugs for the treatment of prostate adenoma in older people should be selected taking into account concomitant pathologies.

Drugs for prostate adenoma in men: list

There is a certain scheme according to which specific drugs are prescribed for the treatment of prostatitis and prostate adenoma.

High effectiveness of treatment is achieved through the use of drugs from the group of alpha-reductase inhibitors and alpha-blockers.

These drugs for the treatment of prostate adenoma in men help eliminate the main symptoms of the disease, as well as restore sufficient urination.

What are the most effective and widely used tablets for prostate adenoma? The list is topped by alpha1-adrenergic receptor blockers. In addition, this list includes 5-alpha reductase inhibitors, vitamins and minerals.

The complex of drug therapy includes not only drugs.

For prostate adenoma, conservative treatment can be supplemented with biologically active additives - dietary supplements, which enhance the therapeutic effect of drugs and ensure a speedy recovery.

Some of them contain zinc, which is directly involved in spermatogenesis and testosterone synthesis, as well as plant phytosterols, which normalize urination.

Prostate adenoma: treatment with drugs of the alpha1-adrenoceptor antagonist group

These drugs for the treatment of prostatitis and prostate adenoma provide relaxation of the smooth muscles of the urinary system and improve the process of urine discharge.

Tamsulosin with the same name of the active substance, which is included in other drugs (Alfuzosin, Omnic, Silodosin, Urorek, etc.

), is a highly selective drug that has a selective effect on alpha1-adrenergic receptors in the muscles of the prostate gland, prostatic urethra and bladder. Due to the decrease in muscle tone, the outflow and excretion of urine is facilitated.

Tamsulosin, like all selective drugs, has minimal side effects, does not affect vascular tone and can be prescribed to patients with chronic hypertension.

Alpha-adrenergic antagonists must be used continuously, thereby achieving a gradual reduction in irritation and obstruction in prostate adenoma.

The drug Omnic in the treatment of prostate adenoma occupies a well-deserved priority in the prescriptions of urologists. It is produced by the Japanese company Astellas Pharma in the form of capsules and tablets (Omnic Okas).

The tablet form of the drug is considered more progressive, since thanks to the controlled release of tamsulosin, the active substance is in the body in a constant concentration.

The medicine enters the bloodstream evenly, thereby reducing the likelihood of developing the main side effect of drugs from the adrenergic blocking group - a sharp decrease in blood pressure.

An equally effective drug with the active ingredient tamsulosin is Urorek. Taking this drug is not accompanied by the following undesirable effects: orthostatic hypotension, tachycardia, increased frequency of angina attacks in patients with coronary heart disease, so it can be prescribed to men with cardiac pathologies.

Properly selected dosage and compliance with all rules for the use of drugs from the alpha-blocker group make it possible to achieve a good therapeutic effect with an almost complete absence of side effects.

Treatment of prostate adenoma in men: drugs from the group of reductase inhibitors (blockers)

Drugs of this pharmacological group (Finasteride, Penester, Alfinal, Dutasteride, Avodart) help facilitate urinary outflow, and, therefore, eliminate the main symptoms of the disease.

A stable therapeutic effect occurs within two to three weeks after the start of the course. All symptoms disappear completely after three months.

According to the results of clinical studies, maximum effectiveness is achieved after six months of therapy with these drugs.

Finasteride and Dutasteride are specific inhibitors of type 2 5-alpha reductase (the cellular enzyme responsible for the transformation of testosterone into dihydrotestosterone).

The growth of the prostate gland in prostate adenoma is directly related to a similar transformation of testosterone.

Thanks to 5-alpha reductase inhibitors, the production of intraprostatic dihydrotestosterone is blocked and its concentration in the blood is significantly reduced.

Finasteride and Dutasteride are used for the following purposes:

  • for the treatment and control of prostatic hyperplasia;
  • to improve urine flow and eliminate the symptoms of prostate adenoma;
  • to reduce the risk of developing acute urinary retention and the need for surgical intervention.

Finasteride and Dutasteride have a pronounced antiandrogenic effect, i.e. help reduce the level of male hormones in the blood. In addition, these drugs have a teratogenic effect, so they should be taken with caution.

With the help of modern medications, it is possible to stop the growth of the prostate and prevent the need for surgical treatment.

Antispasmodics and painkillers for exacerbation of prostate adenoma

The main purpose of antispasmodic and analgesic drugs during exacerbation of prostate adenoma is to alleviate the general condition of the patient and eliminate pain.

Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (Diclofenac, Ibuprofen) have an anti-inflammatory and analgesic effect.

They help fight not only the pain that occurs during urination, but also the constant pain in the groin and perineum.

Thanks to the action of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, the inflammatory process is reduced, swelling of the prostate gland is reduced, body temperature is normalized, and unpleasant symptoms are eliminated.

Non-opioid analgesics, available in the form of tablets or suppositories, help relieve pain during exacerbation of prostate adenoma. The most accessible of them is Analgin. However, this drug is intended rather for one-time use, since it can only affect mild pain.

In addition, analgesics with lidocaine, benzocaine, anesthesin and novocaine (Ichthyol, Anestezol, Procto-Glivenol) are effective.

Vitamin E 400

Tocopherol acetate or vitamin E is often included in the complex treatment of prostate adenoma as an antioxidant, radioprotective agent and an indispensable link in reproductive processes. Vitamin E in a dosage of 400 mg is prescribed by urologists to patients with disorders of erectile function and spermatogenesis associated with prostate adenoma.

Treatment of such a serious chronic disease as prostate adenoma should be prescribed and monitored by a urologist.

Taking certain medications on your own, without prior consultation with your doctor, is strictly prohibited, since self-medication in this case may not only be ineffective, but also dangerous for men’s health.

Only a qualified specialist can tell you which tablets for prostate adenoma are the most effective in each specific case, and which of them can cause negative consequences.

Diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the male genital area are offered at the Yusupov Hospital in Moscow. The clinic is equipped with the latest diagnostic equipment. To treat pathologies, modern medical techniques are used using effective drugs of the latest generation with a minimum number of side effects.
